HAMMOND, Louisiana – The University of Southeast Louisiana women’s basketball team will officially open its 2021-22 schedule on Tuesday, traveling to Tulane for a midday conference competition in New Orleans.
The game will be televised on ESPN +. Fans traveling to Tulane must have proof of COVID-19 vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test within 72 hours of Tuesday’s dual schedule. The original cards or the LA Wallet app can be presented as proof of vaccination. Photos of vaccination cards should include both sides of the card.
Returning the 10-letter winner and the five starters for last season’s squad that posted its best overall (11-8) and conference record (10-5) since 2008-09, the Lady Lions are heading to 2021-22 with his highest expectations for a head coach. In Carrier (43.3 percent three-point baskets), Daija harvey (39.3 3-FG PCT.) And Giaratano (39.1 3-FG PCT.), The southeast has three dangerous long-range shooters. Southeastern is 22-25 all-time in the opening games of the season. Last season, the Lady Lions opened the season with a win for the first time since 2013-14 with a 99-65 victory over Alcorn State. SLU has not opened the season with a road victory since the 1999-00 season.
Tulane returns 11 winners and four starters from last season’s squad, which finished 18-9 overall and qualified for the WNIT. Arsula Clark (12.3 points per game, 3.1 points per game) and Krystal Freeman (12.3 points per game, 7.8 strokes per game) are the best returlers in the green wave.
Tulane claimed a 79-54 victory over Loyola (NO) in a show last Monday. Kaila Anderson led four double-digit players with 12 points, along with Moon Ursin (11 points), Dynah Jones (10 points) and Clark (10 points).
Southeastern is 6-15 against Tulane and the Green Wave have won the last 11 games, including a 70-54 victory last season in New Orleans. SLU had just seven healthy players for that meeting, as TU opened a game that was a two-point contest heading into the fourth quarter behind a 25-point, 17-rebound effort from Freeman. Carrier led SLU with 18 points in the loss.
Tuesday’s game marks the first of two non-conference road games to open the Lady Lions season. On Thursday, SLU heads to Texas Tech for a 7 p.m. contest in Lubbock, TX. The game will air on ESPN +.
